Compare the2024 Genesis G70VS 2024 Cadillac CT4

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Genesis G70 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Cadillac CT4 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The G70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The CT4 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Both the G70 and CT4 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the G70 has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The CT4’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

The G70’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The CT4 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the G70 and the CT4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The G70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The CT4’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G70 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Cadillac covers the CT4. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the CT4 ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The G70’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the CT4’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the CT4.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 9th.

The G70 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 63 more horsepower (300 vs. 237) and 53 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 258) than the CT4’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The G70 3.3T’s standard 3.3 turbo V6 produces 55 more horsepower (365 vs. 310) and 26 lbs.-ft. more torque (376 vs. 350) than the CT4’s optional 2.7 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the G70 3.3T 3.3 turbo V6 is faster than the Cadillac CT4 2.7 turbo 4-cylinder:

The G70 has a standard locking fuel door with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the CT4. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The G70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The CT4 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the G70’s brake rotors are larger than those on the CT4:

For better traction and acceleration, the G70 has larger rear tires than the CT4 (255/35R19 vs. 225/45R17). The G70’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the CT4 (255/35R19 vs. 235/40R18).

The G70’s 225/40R19 front and 255/35R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CT4 Luxury’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the G70 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the CT4 Luxury.

The G70 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the CT4; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the CT4 don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The G70 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The CT4’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the G70’s wheelbase is 2.3 inches longer than on the CT4 (111.6 inches vs. 109.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the G70 is 2.5 inches wider in the front and 2 inches wider in the rear than the track on the CT4.

The G70 handles at .94 G’s, while the CT4 Premium Luxury AWD pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The G70 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.6 seconds quicker than the CT4 Premium Luxury AWD (24.9 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 26.5 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the G70’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the CT4’s (36.3 feet vs. 37.1 feet). The G70 AWD’s turning circle is .3 feet tighter than the CT4 AWD’s (37.7 feet vs. 38 feet).

The G70 has 5.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the CT4 (95.9 vs. 90).

The G70 has 1.5 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, 1.1 inches more front shoulder room, .4 inches more rear headroom, 1.4 inches more rear legroom and .7 inches more rear shoulder room than the CT4.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the G70’s trunk can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The G70 3.3T Sport Prestige also has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The CT4 doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

The G70 uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The CT4 uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The G70’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The CT4’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The CT4 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The G70 3.3T Elite/Prestige/Sport’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

The G70 has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the CT4. The G70 Prestige/Sport also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the CT4.

The G70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2019. The CT4 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
