Safety

The Electrified GV70’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The ZDX doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The ZDX doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the Electrified GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The Electrified GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The ZDX’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Electrified GV70. But it costs extra on the ZDX.

The Electrified GV70’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The ZDX doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Electrified GV70 and the ZDX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, front and rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The Genesis Electrified GV70 achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The ZDX has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Warranty

The Electrified GV70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The ZDX’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the Electrified GV70 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Acura covers the ZDX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the ZDX ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Electrified GV70’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the ZDX’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the Electrified GV70 for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than Acura pays for maintenance for the ZDX (3/36,000 vs. 1/12000).

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Acura vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 31 more problems per 100 vehicles, Acura is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Acura vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 89 more problems per 100 vehicles, Acura is ranked 28th.

Engine

The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 135 more horsepower (483 vs. 348) and 192 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 324) than the ZDX A-Spec’s standard electric motor. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 79 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 437) than the ZDX A-Spec AWD’s standard electric motors.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Electrified GV70 has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The ZDX doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better stopping power the Electrified GV70’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the ZDX:

Tires and Wheels

The Electrified GV70’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the ZDX A-Spec’s standard 50 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Electrified GV70’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the ZDX’s (37.8 feet vs. 39.6 feet).

Chassis

The Genesis Electrified GV70 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 1050 pounds less than the Acura ZDX.

The Electrified GV70 is 1 foot shorter than the ZDX, making the Electrified GV70 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The ZDX doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Electrified GV70 has .8 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room and 1.3 inches more rear headroom than the ZDX.

Ergonomics

The Electrified GV70’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. Acura does not offer a locking feature on the ZDX’s standard power windows.

The Electrified GV70’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The ZDX has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Electrified GV70 has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the ZDX.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends the Genesis Electrified GV70, based on reliability, safety and performance.

The Electrified GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The ZDX has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the Electrified GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The ZDX has never been chosen.
