For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Genesis GV80 Coupe have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW X2 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The GV80 Coupe’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The X2 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Genesis GV80 Coupe are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW X2 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the GV80 Coupe and X2 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The GV80 Coupe has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The X2’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The GV80 Coupe has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The X2 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Genesis GV80 Coupe achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The BMW X2 has not been tested.

Both the GV80 Coupe and the X2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Genesis GV80 Coupe weighs 1344 to 1491 pounds more than the BMW X2. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Genesis GV80 Coupe has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2026 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test, and a “Good” score in the revised vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention test. The X2 has not yet been fully evaluated by the IIHS for 2026.

The GV80 Coupe comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The X2’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV80 Coupe 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than BMW covers the X2. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the X2 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the GV80 Coupe has a standard 180-amp alternator (227-amp - GV80 Coupe e-Supercharged). The X2’s 150-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated below average.

The GV80 3.5T Coupe’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 134 more horsepower (375 vs. 241) and 96 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 295) than the X2 xDrive28i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The GV80 3.5T Coupe’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 63 more horsepower (375 vs. 312) and 96 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 295) than the X2 M35i xDrive’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger’s standard 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid produces 97 more horsepower (409 vs. 312) and 110 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 295) than the X2 M35i xDrive’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Genesis GV80 Coupe uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The X2 M35i xDrive requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The GV80 Coupe has 6.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the X2 (21.1 vs. 14.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Genesis GV80 Coupe, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the X2.

For better traction, the GV80 Coupe has larger tires than the X2 (265/50R20 vs. 245/45R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV80 Coupe has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the X2 xDrive28i. The GV80 Coupe 3.5 e-Supercharger’s 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the X2.

The GV80 Coupe’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The X2 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV80 Coupe’s wheelbase is 10.3 inches longer than on the X2 (116.3 inches vs. 106 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GV80 Coupe is 3.7 inches wider in the front and 4.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the X2.

The front grille of the GV80 Coupe uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The X2 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The GV80 Coupe uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The X2 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The GV80 Coupe has .1 inches more front headroom, 1.3 inches more front legroom, 3.1 inches more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear headroom, 2 inches more rear legroom and .4 inches more rear shoulder room than the X2.

Pressing a button automatically lowers or raises the GV80 Coupe’s rear seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The X2 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The GV80 Coupe has a 6000 lbs. towing capacity. The X2 has no towing capacity.

The engine in the GV80 Coupe is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the X2. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The GV80 Coupe’s standard Proximity Key allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Comfort Access standard on the X2 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The GV80 Coupe has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The X2 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The GV80 Coupe’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The X2’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The Genesis GV80 outsold the BMW X2 by over four to one during 2025.
